Pupil Premium
What is the Pupil Premium?
“The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers.”
The government has used pupils entitled to Free School Meals (FSM) as an indicator of deprivation, and have deployed a fixed amount of money to schools per pupil, based on the number of pupils eligible for Free School Meals. Children who are Looked After or the children of armed service personnel are also eligible for this increased funding.
Does your child qualify?
Pupil Premium money is given to your child’s school to provide extra support for them to flourish. Schools decide with parents what to spend the money on. Examples of spending include paying for classroom interventions, paying for school uniform, playing for music lessons and supporting parents/carers with paying for school trips.
As well as your child’s school getting extra funding your child will be entitled to free school meals.

Hambrook School and the Pupil Premium Grant
At Hambrook Primary School we are committed to ensuring that, regardless of background or any other factor, pupils have equal access to a curriculum which will enable them to reach their potential academically and socially.
This belief is reflected in our school vision:
“Hambrook, a school dedicated to the development of the whole child, academically, socially, physically, spiritually and emotionally achieving his/her full potential through high quality education. Where all children are curious, questioning, self-motivating, independent, confident and healthy; who enjoy learning and take a pride in their work, and who, above all, are happy!”
It is for schools to decide how the grant is spent since they are best placed to assess what additional provision is required. The progress and attainment of all pupils at Hambrook School is carefully tracked and analysed from a rich field of data in order to draw conclusions and develop action plans. We also make use of a wide range of educational research in order to decide how best to spend our funding to maximise the opportunities for our pupils.
What does Hambrook Primary School spend it’s Pupil Premium Funding on?
Our Pupil Premium Strategy will be reviewed again in October, when national comparative data is available.
